2022 Chapbook Contest


The Poets Corner is teaming up with Maine Media Workshops + College to bring you this 2022 Chapbook Contest. Submissions open from January 3, 2022 and close on February 28, 2022. Poet Naomi Shihab Nye will be the judge of the contest. Winner will receive a $1,000 prize and 20 copies of a limited edition letterpress printed chapbook. Submit entries through Submittable.com.

Contest is open to all submissions of a chapbook of 22 pages in length. Poems included may have been published in journals, but not in a previous collection. Submissions will be reviewed anonymously.

The winning chapbook will be designed and printed in the Maine Media Book Arts Studio in a limited edition, hand-crafted and printed on letterpress.

Finalists will be announced at the end of April 2022, and the winner announced no later than May 1st. A reading with the winner will be hosted by The Poets Corner in June.

The distinguished poet, Naomi Shihab Nye will judge the contest. Nye is the author of numerous books of poems, most recently Everything Comes Next - Collected & New Poems (Greenwillow Books 2020) and Cast Away: Poems for Our Time. Her other books of poetry include The Tiny Journalist, Voices in the Air: Poems for Listeners, Transfer, You and Yours (winner of the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award), and 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East. Nye is the Young People’s Poet Laureate of the U.S. through the Poetry Foundation.
